Phil Persson- Retail and Internet Sales Specialist
I am a geologist, mineral collector, and dealer living in Denver Colorado. I grew up in the New York City area and my lifelong obsession with minerals started after seeing the fluorescent mineral exhibit at the Franklin, New Jersey Mineral Museum on a childhood field trip. Soon I was begging my parents to drive me to the nearby Franklin Mineral Museum or Sterling Hill Mining Museum every weekend, where Franklin Museum curator John Cianciulli and Sterling Hill museum founder Dick Hauck let me hang around and learn about minerals.
After selling mainly self-collected minerals throughout high school on eBay and at local shows, I moved to Colorado in 2005 for college and obtained a BA from the University of Colorado Boulder and an MSc. from the Colorado School of Mines in economic geology. I have been a collaborator on numerous research projects on the mineralogy and genesis of pegmatites and related rocks in Colorado. In 2012 I started Persson Rare Minerals, a small, mainly-online mineral business, and this venture subsequently kept a roof over my head and paid for graduate school for the next 5 years.
In the fall of 2017, I started working full time as a sales and marketing coordinator for Collector’s Edge Minerals. I enjoys volunteering with museums, giving talks and presentations for local mineral clubs, and I have been involved in the planning of several geology and mineralogy symposia in the Denver area.
