The Silver Hill mine and related mines in Davidson County, North Carolina were mined in the 19th century for Copper, Silver, Lead, Zinc and other metals. While now closed for many years and largely forgotten, they did briefly produce a suite of crystallized secondary Cu, Pb and Zn minerals which are otherwise quite scarce on the East Coast of the US. This is a fine and large specimen of crystallized white cerussite with green pyromorphite crystals, likely the Silver Hill mine. It has a great provenance, being from the J.P.W Neff Collection and the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences collection. The association of fairly well-crystallized cerussite, showing some reticulated twinning, with grass-green pyromorphite is quite rare from this old locale and this is a highly unusual American classic. ex-Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, ex- J.P.W.
