The Silver Hill mine and related mines in Davidson County, North Carolina were mined in the 19th century for Copper, Silver, Lead, Zinc and other metals. While now closed for many years and largely forgotten, they did briefly produce a suite of crystallized secondary Cu, Pb and Zn minerals which are otherwise quite scarce on the East Coast of the US. This is a very fine large cabinet-size specimen of crystallized cerussite for the area, most likely from the Silver Hill mine. The quality is highly exceptional for the locality, and this is a very rare locality specimen. Additionally, it has a great provenance, being from the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences collection. A very rare American classic! ex-Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences
