Dimensions: 1.8 x 2.1 x 1.5 cm

The Bright Star mine, located in the San Andreas District in California's world-famous Motherlode District, is one of the more obscure small underground gold mines in the Mortherlode Belt. Despite apparently consisting only of a ~200 foot long drift and other minor workings, it evidently produced some superb crystallized gold specimens, and this 2.1 cm group of complex dodecahedral crystals may be the best. The vast majority of crystallized gold from California occurs as flattened leaves and parallel-growth spinel twins, so to have a cluster of well-defined blocky large crystals such as this is very unusual. The crystals show a fascinating combination of forms, and have excellent bright luster. An exceptional California gold specimen which would enhance any collection. Weighs 11.4 grams. Ex. Proctor Family Trust Collection; Lynn Sims photo.
