Alaska needs no introduction in the annals of gold mining and gold rush lore, and the famous "Klondike Gold Rush" is known to people around the world. While billions of dollars in placer gold was mined during the 19th and 20th centuries in Alaskan gold fields, the vast majority of this gold was in the form of nuggets or fine-grained "flour gold." Well-crystallized specimens such as this superb large group of hoppered octahedra were extremely rare. This group of crystals show very slight rounding which suggest it was found in a river or stream, but the quality and preservation of the crystals is exceptional, and is very good for an Alaskan gold specimen. Weighing a hefty 32.6 grams, this is one of the rarer specimens in the Proctor Family Trust Crystalline Gold Collection.
