The Big Indian or La Sal Copper mining district located adjacent to southeastern Utah's La Sal Mountains, is an unusual example of a sandstone-hosted copper district in the western USA. It is known for it's fine royal-blue spherical azurite crystal groups, rarely associated with malachite and set in sandstone matrix. This is a superb large matrix example, with numerous lustrous, well-formed azurite crystal groups set on contrasting malachite matrix. A fine example of this unusual western American classic from the Proctor Family Trust Collection.
