The word “heliodor” is derived from the Greek word Helios, the sun god, acknowledging its yellow color. This superb large gem-quality heliodor crystal is from one of the world’s premier locale for this variety of gem beryl at Volodarsk-Volynskii in Ukraine. While there are some ongoing attempts to find more supply of these precious gem crystals, the majority of the Ukrainian heliodor specimens in the market today were collected prior to the early 2000’s. This specimen is spectacular because of its flawless gem-quality interior and complex, geometric etching patterns which are present on the prism and terminal faces of the crystal. The luster of this crystal is “glassy”, the color is a very strong greenish-yellow, and the hexagonal crystal form and termination are quite well-defined for the locality. The weight of this fine gem crystal is 255.3 grams. Ex. Proctor Family Trust Collection.
