The beautiful pink "Kunzite" variety of spodumene reaches its zenith in the granite pegmatites of Afghanistan, particularly those in Nuristan Province, such as the Mawi mine. Typically however they occur as pale to colorless crystals off-matrix and with few associations, so this fine example, a 14.5 cm tall doubly-terminated gem kunzite crystal on a quartz crystal, is particularly outstanding. The way the kunzite is "perched" on the quartz is fantastic, and this large cabinet-size specimen is in pristine condition. A visually stunning example of the desirable pegmatite gem mineral from an important locality. Ex. Proctor Family Trust Collection.
