Proustite crystals from the Chanarcillo District in Chile have, for hundreds of years, been among the most desirable and coveted of all mineral specimens, right up there with Kongsberg wire silvers or Bolivian phosphophyllites. While their demand has been steady, the supply of fine specimens has seemingly dwindled to almost nothing as the mine has been closed now for many decades, and most good examples are stored away in museums and important private collections. Therefore, it is that much more unusual and special to see such a large, fine example available for sale. The large size, fine condition, and brilliant deep red color under even minimal backlighting help set this Chanarcillo proustite aside from its peers. A significant and superb example of a highly sought-after old classic from the Proctor Family Trust Collection. Riley Owen photo.
