Locality: Långban, Filipstad, Värmland, Sweden
Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.8 x 3.0 cm

The Långban District, situated in central Sweden's Bergslagen Mining Field, is a major locality, with over 300 different minerals known. One of the most important of the many rare species found at Långban is Native Lead, which is globally very rare. Rarer still are well-crystallized examples, such as this fine 5.8 cm example, which features fairly sharp, hoppered cubic crystals with a selective contrasting coating of white hydrocerussite. For the locality, this is a significant specimen, and for something many collectors might right off as a "rare ugly", it actually has a nice display presence. An excellent and rare old European classic from the Proctor Family Trust Collection.
