This outstanding large gem-quality heliodor beryl crystal is from one of the world’s premier locale for this variety of gem beryl at Volodarsk-Volynskii in Ukraine. While there are some ongoing attempts to find more supply of these precious gem crystals, the majority of the Ukrainian heliodor specimens in the market today were collected prior to the early 2000’s. This specimen is exceptional because of its flawless gem-quality interior and complex, geometric etching patterns which are present on the prism and terminal faces of the crystal. The luster of this crystal is bright and glassy, the color is a very strong greenish-yellow, and the etching patterns are outstanding for the locality. With a combination of a gem-quality interior and complex, fascinating surface etching features, this crystal ranks in the top percent of what has ever been found at this historically-important locality. The weight of this superb gem crystal is 300.5 grams. Jeff Scovil photo. Ex. Dr. Steve Neely Collection.
