The Smoky Hawk Claim, located on Crystal Peak in Teller county, Colorado is famous as the source of what are probably the world's best amazonite and smoky quartz specimens. The color of the amazonite, quality of the smoky quartz, and size/quality of the combinations really sets Smoky Hawk claim specimens apart, and only a few isolated finds such as the 1997 "Tree Root" pocket can compare. This is an outstandingly aesthetic specimen from this mine, with several sharp, lustrous, robin's egg blue Amazonite crystals perched next to two large, gemmy smoky quartz crystals which are arranged in a "rabbit ears" cluster. For the size, this has to be one of the most well-balanced and aesthetic amazonite and smoky quartz specimens out there. A true Colorado classic. Riley Owen photo. Ex - Stephen M.
