The Milpillas mine in northern Mexico's Sonora State has wowed the worst over the past 15 years with some of the finest azurite crystals ever seen. Somewhat less well-known but equally astounding are the razor-sharp malachite psuedomorphs after azurite crystals that have been found there. This is most certainly one of the finest examples of this psuedomorphic replacement ever found at Milpillas, and features stunning large rosettes of sharp azurite crystals which have been completely replaced by rich green velvety malachite. The isolation of the malachite-after-azurite 'flowers' on contrasting white matrix is extremely aesthetic, as is the placement of the three 'flowers' in a chain-like grouping. A premier specimen for this mine which has produced no shortage of world-class minerals. Photo by Jeff Scovil. Ex - Steve Neely Collection
