While Colorado’s Taryall Mountains have been a well-known locality for gem topaz crystals for over 100 years, crystals of this size (6.8 cm and 310.4 grams) and rich blue color are highly-unusual. This is a superb large topaz from a remote locale called the Xenolith Ridge claim, which is a cliff band high in the Taryall Mountains typically accessed by rappelling down to pockets of ropes from above. The color is an intense sky-blue with hints of peachy-tan towards the base, and the crystal is sharp and well-formed. There is one significant restoration where a section of the upper termination face had been naturally removed in the pocket, but I still think for the size and color this is an outstanding Colorado topaz and a real rarity for the Colorado collector.
This specimen has 1 RESTORATION and 1 REPAIR.
