Announcing the Permanent Closure of the Detroit City Portal of the Sweet Home Mine
The Detroit City Portal has yielded quality rhodochrosite specimens from 2018 through the 2024 season. On September 3rd, we announced the permanent closure of the Detroit City Portal. We thank you for nearly 10 years of support in this dream mining venture.
The remaining specimens from the Detroit City Portal, including specimens from the last pocket at the mine – Baker’s Pocket – are now available on our Sweet Home Collection shop page.

Jim and Gail Spann, renowned collectors of fine minerals, are well-known for building and sharing one of the most extensive mineral collections in the world.
For eighteen years, exceptional specimens have been added to the Spann Collection from prominent experts and collections around the world. Many are featured in publications and have been exhibited in museums and fine mineral galleries.
