Most collectors begin with one special piece – either given to them, or something they came across at a shop or mineral show. Collectors can start when they’re young, or at any age.
There are so many different minerals and gems, in so many configurations, that anyone can find that perfect piece to get started. Collections can be general or worldwide in scope, they can focus on a specific mineral species, size, mine, state, or country. The variations between fine mineral collections are seemingly endless.
There is no single “template” for building your mineral collection. The collection needs to bring joy to its owner.
