a lovely large example of elbaite tourmaline on quartz from one of the eastern United States’ premier localities for the species, the Mount Mica Quarry in Oxford County, Maine. Maine is known for exceptional tourmalines, and has been so since the mid 1800s, drawing the attention of George Kunz for his annual reports for the USGS. The locality is renowned for its tourmaline crystals, as well as being the first location where rose quartz crystals were ever discovered c. 1914!

This particular specimen features two large DT tourmaline crystals aesthetically perched on a quartz matrix. While not the gemmiest crystals, they still display fantastic watermelon color. For what it is, I think this is a excellent Maine tourmaline in a uncommonly seen size. A must have for eastern US or tourmaline collectors.
